Today I ran the Bier Burner 5k in Keystone. The company that I work for put on this race, as an annual race that most likely will keep going for the next few years and beyond. After hiking 14 miles yesterday, I didn’t think I would run too hard today. Boy was I wrong.
The count down ended and I started out running way too fast. My first mile pace was 7:43. I was at the front of the pack heading down Montezuma rd. A few people passed me during mile 2, where I was keeping about an 8 minute pace. I kept this pace for the last 2 miles and ended 9th overall out of 77 racers, 3rd for the women out of 45. I was so proud of myself and my pace. I beat my mile pace by 15 seconds. It was such a great run and super rewarding!
After the race I talked with the overall winner for awhile who has run hard rock, UTMB and a few other ultras. He gave me some awesome tips for my future of running and we had a great conversation about running and ultras and training. I had such a wonderful day today!
